For Clients
Afrishore Quant provides a bespoke offshoring solution that works with insurers to augment actuarial functions with motivated, high-performing contractors, or to outsource elements of the actuarial function to experienced, quality-focused teams.
The Problem We Solve
International insurers face structural pressures that weigh on every actuarial team. Afrishore Quant is built to address all four.
Competition for talent and employment-related costs, including payroll taxes, pension contributions and office space, create significant operational overheads that compound year on year.
Insurers face peaks around annual valuations and quarterly submissions, and additional demands from regulatory requirements and non-recurring projects, creating a capacity problem that is expensive to solve permanently.
Training requirements, managerial oversight and staff turnover place additional operational strain, diverting senior resources away from substantive actuarial work.
Organisations take time to scale up team size in response to unforeseen increases in workload. Afrishore Quant can mobilise qualified actuaries and actuarial analysts rapidly and at short notice.
Engagement Models
Choose the model that fits your needs, or combine both to cover different parts of your actuarial function.
Model 01
Access highly motivated, talented individuals with experience and skills expertly matched to the needs of your team. Contractors are placed on contracts from one to 12 months in length, working seamlessly alongside your existing staff.
Model 02
Outsource part of your firm's actuarial function on a project-based or functional basis. Teams are built from individuals with the requisite skills, resourced to guarantee quality delivery on cost-effective terms.
The Economic Case
The gap between in-house actuarial costs and South African compensation creates a clear cost advantage, benefiting both client and contractor.
Figures are illustrative. Actual savings depend on seniority, specialism and project scope.
Use Case
Actuarial teams face peaks and troughs in their workload. These can be most efficiently met by outsourcing projects or bringing additional skilled contractors on board at crunch times.
Rather than maintaining permanent headcount to cover peak demand, Afrishore Quant allows you to flex capacity precisely when and where you need it, at a fraction of the cost.
Outsource peak demand without carrying permanent overhead.
Our Competitive Edge
Up to 40% cost savings with qualified oversight. Exceptional value for professional actuarial services, with skills and experience matched directly to the requirements of the project or team.

Data Security

SCCs and the UK IDTA govern all data flows from the UK to South Africa. A Transfer Impact Assessment confirms South Africa's adequacy for this purpose.
Data in transit encrypted via TLS 1.3; data at rest via AES-256. Role-based access control with least-privilege principle and MFA enforced for all staff and contractors.
Published sub-processor register with 30 days' notice of changes. All sub-processors contractually required to meet equivalent data protection standards.
All contractor devices enrolled in MDM, enabling remote wipe. Air-gapped client workspaces available where required. Centralised endpoint protection.
A DPA is executed for every engagement, designating the UK client as controller and Afrishore as processor, with full data subject rights preserved.
Clients may commission independent security audits with 30 days' notice. ISO 27001 surveillance reports and penetration test summaries available on request.

Questions & Answers
The questions that come up most often in client due diligence, answered directly. If yours is not here, ask us and we will answer it straight.
All of our contractors and consultants are pursuing (or have completed) the Fellowship qualification of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA), at varying stages of progress through the examination programme. ASSA's curriculum and examination standards are closely aligned with those of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), meaning our contractors bring rigorous, internationally recognised technical training to every engagement. We work with analysts at every stage from early part-qualified through to fully qualified Fellows, and we match the level of qualification to the requirements of each specific assignment.
Software experience varies depending on each contractor's or consultant's prior professional experience. However, as South African firms commonly use internationally recognised software packages, we are able to source the right person or people for your organisation by matching our placements according to your specific software preferences.
Our contractors have experience across a wide range of actuarial activities. The South African regulatory regime is closely aligned with those in the UK and Australia, and to a great extent with those in the USA and Canada, meaning our contractors bring directly relevant technical experience to international engagements. Our core capabilities span IFRS 17 implementation and review, capital adequacy and solvency calculations, reserving, assumption setting, profitability analysis and premium rating, reinsurance optimisation, product development, actuarial modelling, and bespoke reporting. We match each contractor to an engagement based on their technical skills, experience level, and prior client knowledge, drawing on a deep network within the South African actuarial profession.
Matching the right contractor to each engagement is the most important thing we do. Our process has several layers.
First, we maintain a detailed and continuously updated profile of every contractor in our network, covering their examination progress, technical specialist areas, software experience, prior project history, and the types of client and work they have found most rewarding. This means we are not starting from scratch when a new requirement comes in. We already know our people well.
Second, every requirement from a client is carefully scoped before we propose candidates. We take the time to understand not just the technical specification but the working style of the team, the pace of the engagement, and any particular sensitivities around the subject matter or regulatory context. A technically capable contractor who is a poor fit for the client environment is not a good match.
Third, we do not simply present CVs and step back. We conduct our own assessment of each proposed contractor against the specific requirement before putting them forward, and we are transparent about areas where a candidate is still developing experience. We would rather have that conversation upfront than place someone who is not quite right.
Finally, we stay close to both the client and the contractor throughout the engagement. Regular check-ins allow us to identify and address any concerns early, and our high staff retention means that the contractors we place are genuinely committed to building a career through Afrishore, which is a very different motivation from a contractor simply maximising their next day rate.
IFRS 17 is a core area of expertise for our contractors, covering implementation, reserving, assumption setting, and the calculation and validation of fulfilment cash flows. South Africa's Solvency Assessment and Management (SAM) framework is directly modelled on Solvency II, meaning our contractors bring substantive, transferable experience in capital adequacy, SCR calculations, and regulatory reporting. Our contractors are also trained in relevant regional insurance regulations and product structures, so they are ready to contribute once agreed onboarding and access are complete.
We provide high-level training on relevant regulations and protection and insurance products, enabling contractors to contribute quickly without a lengthy onboarding period. Afrishore Quant operates as part of the broader Afrishore BPO group, which has an established track record of excellence in delivering offshore services to international clients, from contracting and data management through to high-quality output delivery.
Many of our contractors have experience of working with other international clients, and we are building and socialising this experience base with each additional assignment.
We stand behind every input delivered to our clients. Qualified actuarial oversight is built into every engagement, and quality is contractually defined at every stage of the delivery process. We stand behind our promises of exceptional execution, with structured quality controls applied at every stage. We have a collaborative support structure where contractors and consultants can assist and learn from each other to smooth out challenges that may arise in the course of their work.
Our model delivers 30% to 40% cost savings compared to equivalent UK, US, Canadian or Australian in-house resource costs, and around 30% savings relative to UK contractor rates, once all employment-related costs are considered. Our fee structure is transparent, with targeted operating margins that we are happy to discuss openly. The exact fee for any engagement depends on the level of qualification required, the nature and duration of the work, and the degree of oversight and quality assurance included. We are happy to provide a detailed proposal following an initial scoping conversation.
Clients contract directly with Afrishore, which acts as a supplier to the business. The contractor is not engaged directly by the client, and IR35 regulations are therefore not relevant under our model. The off-payroll working rules do not apply.
All work product created during an engagement is the intellectual property of the client. There are no restrictions or carve-outs in this regard.
While our contractors are the cornerstone of our offering, we would not obstruct a situation where a satisfied client wished to extend an offer of employment to a willing contractor. That said, we do ask that clients do not directly solicit our contractors in a way that circumvents the existing contractual relationship. This protects the integrity of the model for all parties, including future clients who rely on the same network.
Our model is specifically designed for speed and flexibility. We can mobilise qualified actuaries and actuarial analysts rapidly and at short notice, and our contracts are structured to accommodate unforeseen demands and changes in scope. Engagements typically run from one to twelve months, with the ability to extend or adjust terms to suit your evolving requirements.
Yes. South Africa-based contractors are reliably online during your normal business hours. With a time zone difference of just two hours from GMT (one hour during British Summer Time) and flexible working embraced for North American east coast clients, real-time collaboration, calls, and same-day turnaround of work are all entirely practical. There is no meaningful operational friction arising from the geographic distance.
For clients in Australia or American west coast time zones, we operate a delivered-by-start-of-deadline-day model, with contractors creating availability in their schedules for critical meetings or debriefs.
Data security is central to our operating model. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.3 and data at rest via AES-256. We operate role-based access controls with a least-privilege principle, and multi-factor authentication is enforced for all staff handling client data. Contractor devices are enrolled in our Mobile Device Management system, with remote wipe capability, and air-gapped client workspaces are available where required. A Data Processing Agreement is executed for every engagement, and all international data transfers from the UK to South Africa are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses under the UK IDTA framework.
Afrishore holds ISO 27001 (Information Security Management), HIPAA, and PCI-DSS certifications. We are fully compliant with UK GDPR requirements for international data transfers, including the use of Standard Contractual Clauses and a completed Transfer Impact Assessment confirming South Africa's adequacy for this purpose. Copies of our certifications, our standard Data Processing Agreement, and our latest audit summaries are available on request, and we welcome pre-contract due diligence sessions with your IT and legal teams.
Continuity of service is a cornerstone of our proposition. Our model is built around career-based employment for our contractors, with attractive remuneration, international exposure, and varied work. Together these produce a high retention rate that is a deliberate feature of how we operate, not a happy accident. In the event of an unplanned departure, our deep network within the South African actuarial profession means we are well placed to source a qualified replacement and manage a structured handover. Our back-end loaded remuneration structure also provides a strong incentive for contractors to complete engagements.
Continuity is our default. Our high staff retention means that the analysts working with you today are highly likely to be available for follow-on work, bringing accumulated knowledge of your business, systems, and processes. We maintain institutional knowledge of each client's operations across multiple engagements, and actively seek to build long-term partnerships rather than transactional one-off relationships.
Send us the question. If it touches contracting, security or regulatory scope we will put you in touch with the person who owns it.
